Volunteer Work in Peru
I am off to my birth country, Peru, to do a 5-month volunteer work with children and youth in orphanages and transition houses as an art therapist and counsellor.
After being adopted from Peru when I was an infant, growing up in Switzerland with my adoptive family and immigrating to Canada on my own, I am going back to where everything started. Although I have returned to Peru many times, this time will be different. After training to become a therapist for many years, I am now finally able to go back to my roots and work with children and families that would benefit from emotional and psychological support.
I am very excited about going back to my roots, reconnect with my native land, speak the language of my ancestors, be immersed in the Peruvian culture, eat incredibly tasty food, take in beautiful landscapes, listen to the melodious sounds of the pan flute, attend folkloric dance performances, interact with and learn from local people, as well as use my therapeutic skills to support children and youth who have suffered from abandonment, violence and poverty.
I will be writing bi-monthly blog posts about my experience, including my surprising, touching, challenging, sad and funny moments with an open heart. Read my blogs on this website or follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
I will leave for Peru at the beginning of October 2017 and will be back in Vancouver, BC, at the end of February 2018. I will be available to take in new clients once I am back in Vancouver.
